We do have horses.

New Policy – All horses are to be adopted out using our Kids Go Light program to better acclimate horse and rider (especially children)

Please contact us if you are interested in adopting one of our beautiful horses.

While we cannot say all of the horses adopted from the Lonesome Dove Rescue are kid ready or ‘bomb-proof’, we can say that many have gone to first-time owners and kids. Horses at LDR are taught that they do not have to fear people and can become very gentle.

About adoption fees:

Our minimal adoption fee helps us continue to care for and feed rescued animals. Our adoption fees start slightly higher than killer price, to keep killer buyers away. Our animals are not for slaughter or to be destroyed. If someone can not handle or will not pay an adoption fee, how can we expect then to handle day to day care or the unexpected bills that can arise from horse ownership? We do not give rescue horses away. Adoption fees pay for feed, medical needs and the needs of the animals at rescue.

Rescue Horses at the Lonesome Dove Rescue were loved enough to be given up so they could have a better life!

Vermont– Warning – Under Vermont Law, an equine professional is not liable for the injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities pursuant to Section 13-21-119, Vermont Revised Statutes.

As of December 1, 2012, owners wanting to surrender are required to make a $25.00 donation. This donation helps cover feed and other costs incurred by donated animals. Donations can be made through the website.

Owners wanting to surrender are not subject to LDR testing.

Any claims of training are strictly the opinion of the animal’s prior owner. We do not guarantee the accuracy of these claims.
